Every year on May 18th, the International Museum Day is celebrated. This year's theme is "The Power of Museums", which aims to highlight the role of museums as agents of social change and sustainable development. The focus of this year's celebration includes three key areas: Sustainability, Innovation - New Technologies - Accessibility, and Strengthening Social Cohesion through Education.
The Neraida Floating Museum has chosen to emphasize Sustainability, with a primary focus on the Environment in its activities. Thus, it aims to contribute to raising awareness contemporary environmental challenges and fostering sensitivity to these issues. By combining traditional and innovative approaches to public engagement, the Neraida Floating Museum presents three activities scheduled during the week of May 16-22, 2022, both on-site and online.
The aforementioned activities are as follows:
1. "The history of energy through the Museum's exhibits"
Thematic tour at the Neraida Floating Museum | Activity for the general public
Step aboard the Neraida Floating Museum and embark on a journey through the history of energy from the early 20th century to the present day, guided by the Museum's exhibits. What kind of light did people read by in the early 20th century evenings? When did oil become the predominant energy source? How did we transition to renewable energy sources?
The tour will take place at the Neraida Floating Museum on Saturday 21/5 και την Sunday 22/5, between 18:00-19:00.

2. "Nature's Music Lover"

What sounds does the sea make? How about the wind, the rustling leaves of trees, or the raindrops? How crucial are these sounds for both people and the environment? Using simple, recyclable materials, we craft musical instruments that mimic the soothing sounds of nature! Join us in becoming a nature music enthusiast with joyful melodies.
The workshop will take place on Saturday, 21/5 and Sunday 22/5 between 11:00-12:00. In order to register, please provide the child's full name and age, as well as a contact phone number, at [email protected].

3. "The Sea of the Saronic Gulf"

Why is it named the Saronic Gulf? What species inhabit its waters? Join us to uncover the mysteries of the sea where Neraida once sailed.
